We are pleased to announce the continued growth of The Boys & Girls Club of Elkhart, launched in 2010. The Elkhart Club initially began with three Power Hour (academic assistance) school sites and one Teen Center. Two Extension Clubs are open, located in Osolo and Beardsley Elementary Schools. These Clubs provide full-service Boys & Girls Club programming Monday through Friday, immediately after school until 6 p.m.
The Bristol Teen Center opened in March of 2010, and is located on SR 120 in downtown Bristol. The Teen Center serves children in grades 6-12. In addition to enjoying the opportunity for fellowship and full-service Boys & Girls Club programs, Teen Center members are able to participate as a group in community activities. Membership is growing each week.
Power Hour academic assistance is currently running in both Extension Clubs, and also at Bristol Elementary School. Power Hour runs every day after school, and will continue throughout the 2011-12 school year.
With the support of Mark Mow (superintendent of Elkhart Community School Corporation), the school board, and the principals of participating schools, we have built a strong partnership to serve Elkhart youth.
The school and Teen Center locations were chosen as the result of census research, conversation with school officials, and evaluation of existing youth resources in Elkhart. We are pleased to offer services in the newly opened Extension Clubs, and continue to research the best possibility for a full-service, year-round Club facility.
In founding the Boys & Girls Club of Elkhart, we aim to bring our track record of conscientious stewardship and success in serving youth to the largest and most under-served population of youth in the area.
